The Prophet and The Face of God

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

John 15:15 ESV

To hunger and thirst after righteousness is when nothing in the world can fascinate us so much as being near God.

Smith Wigglesworth

Being called a friend by the Lord is rare in scripture. Only a select few touched the heart of God in such a way that he bestowed upon them this most precious title friend of the bridegroom. There is no greater title that can be given upon the earth. Not the title of King, Judge or even President can suffice. Being called a friend of Jesus Christ trumps them all. His friendship and manifest presence is like he told Abraham our reward.

After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward."

Genesis 15:1 New International Version

Many can not grasp this truth because we have embraced a religious mindset concerningintimacy with God. We seek after conferences and titles without remembering that His presence and friendship is our reward. Nothing else will do. No ministry promotion, riches, or success can scratch the itch in our hearts to know the person of Jesus Christ. I have learned in several hard seasons, that He truly is enough. After my divorce and the collapse of my ministry. I became deeply clear that again His presence is enough. love the Lord with all my heart. However, in my own life I have wrestled with the friendship of the Lord being enough. I have come to say with certainty over time that the face of Jesus is the greatest longing of my heart.

Another person that has this testimony in scripture is David. He was a friend of God. His radical life of worship and adoration unto the Lord has marked the lives of untold multitudes. David was a man of many things, a warrior, who won many battles in the strength of the Lord. David was a lover of the presence and a pursuer of the Glory of God. He spoke with the Lord face to face. David was a man that understood prayer and worship. He is known for the famous David’s Tabernacle that held 24 hour worship unto the Lord( 1 Chronicles 16).

This David’s Tabernacle is being raised up again in our day according to scripture.

“‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,

Acts 15:16 English Standard Version

This verse is being fulfilled in the modern day UPPERROOM Prayer Movement, International House of Prayer, Burn 24/7, and several other movements that are championing 24/7 prayer and worship centered around the presence of the Lord. I am at the beginning stages of planting a ministry called The Tabernacle in Orlando Florida. God told me in this to have a David’s Tabernacle blueprint in place. David reached such a place of closeness with the Lord that thousands of years later. A generation is still trying to duplicate the beauty of what he built in David’s Tabernacle. Only a true friend of God can build the Lord a house to His liking. I believe in our day the Holy Spirit is looking for friends that will partner with Him. In the rebuilding of David’s Tabernacle across the earth that will house His Glory in the end times.

David was such a friend of God that he is the only man in scripture given the title a man after God's own heart.

And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

Acts 13:22 ESV

I want to be a man after God’s own heart. I want to be someone that the Lord can trust with His Glory. Like David, I want to be one that walks with God before His generation. What impresses me the most about David is His deep love for the Glory of the Lord. His first act as King was to recapture the Ark of the Covenant. Which represents the Glory of God (2 Samuel 6). True friends of God have a deep longing after the presence of God above everything else. This is why David’s first act as king was to restore the manifest presence to national life.

David stole the heart of God, with His radical heart that longed after God.

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.

Psalm 42:1 NKJV

This is the type of passion for the presence that true friends of God carry. Their one desire is to know Him, they thirst like David after the manifest presence of God. True friends of God all have the same fear. Their greatest fear is that they would lose or grieve His presence. David had this great fear that he lived with. It was the fear of hurting his friend. This place of deep friendship is also the key to hearing the voice of the Lord. Many are paying thousands of dollars for prophetic courses, conferences, and books searching for the secret to hearing God’s voice. When in reality there is only one secret according to scripture. Well actually there are two, which is friendship with the Lord and the fear of the Lord.

The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Psalm 25:14 KJV

The secret is being so close to the heart of Jesus that you hear the very whisper of His heart. Jesus reveals His secrets to those who are the closest to Him. This is the revelation of why Jesus only took the three on the mountain of transfiguration with Him and not the entire twelve(Matthew 17). Best friends get complete access to all the details. This is also the revelation behind the Lord first telling Abraham before he destroyed Sodom. Abraham was a prophet according to scripture (Genesis 20:6-7). Abraham was also a friend of God. You can be as close to the Lord as Abraham was and know the deep secrets of God as you learn to seek His face. In my own life I never really pursued being accurate in the prophetic. I gave myself to communion with the Holy Spirit and over time He began to reveal to me His deep secrets.

If you are reading this book I believe deep inside of you have the same there longing as me. Like David, you desire friendship with the Holy Spirit. We see David’s radical love affair with the Lord as we read the book of Psalms. As we read each Psalm we receive revelation of David’s deep love for God. We can as David did, befriend God through this same passionate love affair with the bridegroom. We need to develop a Holy addiction for the Lord that consumes our being.

The Holy Spirit is raising up Davidic people with this type of addiction for the Lord. They will carry the Glory and presence to their generation, while also stewarding a message of friendship with God. They will win battles on their faces in intimacy with the Holy Spirit. The spirit of David is coming upon a generation. The anointings of friendship with God is being released afresh.

Prophets are known for their close relationship with God, often being described as friends of God who had the privilege of seeing Him face to face. This special connection allowed them to receive divine messages, insights, and visions which they then shared with the people. For example, in the Bible, we read about Moses, who spoke with God as a friend speaks to a friend, and Abraham, who was called a friend of God. These prophets not only communicated with God but also walked closely with Him, seeking His guidance and wisdom in all aspects of their lives.

Seeing God face to face was a profound experience for the prophets, as it gave them a deeper understanding of His character, will, and purposes. Through these encounters, they gained clarity on the messages they were to deliver and the actions they were to take. This intimacy with God empowered them to fulfill their roles as messengers and spiritual leaders with confidence and authority. For instance, Elijah's encounter with God on Mount Horeb strengthened him to continue his ministry despite facing opposition and challenges.

Furthermore, the friendship between God and the prophets highlights the relational aspect of prophecy. It emphasizes that being a prophet is not just about receiving visions and making predictions but about cultivating a personal connection with God. This friendship was built on trust, obedience, and mutual respect, with both parties playing an active role in the relationship. The prophets' commitment to God and His teachings not only deepened their friendship but also enabled them to effectively fulfill their calling to speak truth and bring about spiritual transformation among the people.
